BugSplat Newsletter: January Highlights

Happy 2025, BugSplatters!

It’s a thrill to kick off the year with our first Third Thursday Newsletter. We’re excited to share some great updates, new features, and a fun new tradition we’re introducing this month: the BugSplat Monthundrum.

Before diving in, let me say how much we appreciate working with all of you. The BugSplat community is packed with talented and passionate individuals creating incredible projects, and we’re grateful to play a part in improving app stability and fixing critical defects. Your feedback drives our mission, so never hesitate to reach out!

Now, onto the good stuff:

Regression Alerts: Stay Ahead of Recurring Defects

Say hello to Regression Alerts, a powerful feature to help you identify and address defects that resurface in newer versions of your software. Here's how it works:

  • Crash groups now have one of three statuses: Open, Closed, and Regression.
  • Closing a crash group allows BugSplat to track it. If the same crash appears in a newer version, the status automatically updates to Regression.
  • Alerts notify you via Discord, Teams, or Slack when a regression occurs.

This feature ensures that once bugs are fixed, they stay fixed.

BugSplat Monthundrum: A Monthly Brain Teaser

Inspired by NPR’s Car Talk and their classic “Puzzler” segment, we’re introducing the BugSplat Monthundrum—a monthly conundrum for you to solve. Each correct answer enters you into a drawing for a $100 gift card to Headphones.com, where you can find the perfect gear for your setup.

January’s Monthundrum:

A software developer notices an odd pattern while debugging. Every time a new version of their app is released, crashes from a single defect triple compared to the version before. By the fifth version, the developer logs 243 crashes. How many crashes were there in the first version?

How to enter:

  • Respond with your answer to joey@bugsplat.com or DM @joey_p on Discord.
  • Show your work to earn a second entry into the drawing!

The solution (and winner) will be revealed in next month’s newsletter. Good luck!
